Tortimer (ã ã ã ¡ã ã , Sonchou), a very old tortoise, is the mayor of the town that the player moves into in the Animal Crossing series. He appears during Holidays, celebrating or often giving out holiday-specific items. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, he can be seen in the back of the Town Hall,n napping. His name is a pun, a mix of the word "tortoise" and the name n"Mortimer." He laughs like "heh heh hoorf." He wasn't in the original Animal Forest.n
He seems to have a large ego about himself, according to Animal Crossing: The Movie, to the extent of having his own cult of personality,n though he is its only follower. This is supported in the games, since nduring festivals he always seems to remind the player of his authority, nsuch as during Nature Day in City Folk, where he boasts the slogan n"Mother Nature and Father MAYOR." He seems to spend most of his time nwhen there are no events in town sleeping at the back of the town hall. nSometimes cranky villagers will reveal a secret that Tortimers' shell isn fake.n
