The mythical creature Notch based the Endermen off of.
I have never tested out in game, but it works best at the right angle.
UPDATE: This is an old skin, and it's getting popular now because of the game. I created it when the Enderman were new. I've seen some really good skins on PMC based off the game, and this skin is based off the photo fad, long before the game.
