AFL Australian Football League 2012
The Australian Football League , Assie Rules football

THE FOUR POINTS
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
1. How will GWS rebound from its heavy loss to the Lions in humid Brisbane? It was a taxing trip for the young Giants, who fell behind by six goals in the first term and never recovered. Sheedy is likely to rotate his line-up once again in search of fresh legs to take on the Bombers, with Tom Bugg, Dylan Shiel and Devon Smith among those expected to be back in the mix following a week off.
2. The Giants will finally bring to an end their nomadic existence in the AFL when they play their first match at Škoda Stadium. Following trips to Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra twice, they are excited to test out their impressive new venue. It will take time, but they will be hoping the 25,000-seat stadium becomes a fortress.
3. Giants ruckman Jonathan Giles has had some sort of an initiation in his first year at the top level. With Dean Brogan sidelined for most of the season through injury, and youngster Andrew Phillips and part-time ruckman Israel Folau very raw, Giles has largely played a lone hand. It doesn't get any easier this week for the 24-year-old, with Paddy Ryder and Tom Bellchambers in terrific form for the Bombers.
4. Can co-captain Callan Ward maintain his excellent start to the season? Ward has been a revelation for the Giants this year, named in their best virtually every week and likely to have his nose in front in their best and fairest count. In a midfield often starved of possession, Ward is averaging more than 24 disposals, five clearances and five tackles per game. He will need to produce more of the same against the well-balanced Bombers.
ESSENDON
1. Before James Hird took over as coach at the start of 2011, Essendon's record interstate was very poor. Slowly it has improved, with the club winning three of its six games outside of Victoria in that time. The last was a hard-fought victory over Gold Coast in round three, when the Bombers beat the Suns with a run of last-quarter goals. This game presents an opportunity for Essendon to continue its development away from home.
2. Last week Hird said he didn't mind making a few changes to his squad every week because the modern game's taxing style takes its toll on players. This week he has a chance to refresh his squad. Travis Colyer and Kyle Reimers could come in and inject some pace and Mark McVeigh or Cory Dell'Olio could be used deep in attack. First-round draftee Elliott Kavanagh probably remains one or two more good performances away from making his AFL debut.
3. Jake Carlisle's growth as an AFL player has been very steady and he now looks at home in Essendon's defence. This week the strong-marking 20-year-old might come up against GWS forward Jeremy Cameron, another young key position player whose marking is the strength of his game. It would certainly be an aerial battle worth watching.
4. The revival of Ricky Dyson continues. Dyson's career looked shot at the end of last year but he has turned things around and is playing perhaps the best footy of his nine seasons at Essendon. Dyson has played the last six games and in Michael Hibberd's absence has found his niche as an attacking defender. He is averaging almost 21 touches and creates much of Essendon's rebound.
