Once while separated from his symbiote, Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom, was incarcerated in Ravencroft, a maximum-security prison for the worst of criminals and psychotics. His cellmate was a deranged serial killer named Cletus Kasady. His symbiote, not willing to be without him, broke Brock out, leaving Kasady free to escape, however, what Brock did not know was that is the excitement, his symbiote had given birth to an infant symbiotic creature. Cletus reached out to touch it, and it bonded with him, much, much closer than Venom had bonded to Eddie. In fact, the symbiote bonded to Cletus's blood, creating a dark red color. Thus Carnage was born, a super-powered serial killer that has stalked the Marvel Universe ever since!
