Boston Brand's (Deadman) time as a circus acrobat was cut short the day his life was taken by a mysterious assassin. Bran's spirit lives on, however, as the ghostly Deadman. He wanders the Earth as an invisible phantom, performing heroic deeds and searching for, but never finding, the peace he craves.

Deadman's spirit can inhabit and control anyone he chooses. he's also able to use all their abilities, though in many cases he doesn't know how. Deaman possesses the White Lantern Ring of Life, which can resurrect the dead. While alive, he was an agile acrobat, Olympic-level athlete, and trained fighter.
