Played by Denzel Washington in the film directed by the Hughes brothers, Eli was a wanderer of the post-apocalyptic wasteland before he heard a voice command him to deliver his book (A bible) to somewhere in the west. He is guided and protected by God on this journey, while helping those in need along the way.
