Drez the Wolf Tamer

Drez was a failure. He was born into a prominent family in his village and had a great job as a village guard, now he was lying, hung over, in some ditch. Only awoken by the pain of his hunger, he believed that he had just been pulled out of a terrible dream, immediately realizing it hadno t been a dream at all. Drezo s brother, a miner, had just committed suicide because his mine had dried up and his wife had left him because of it. Because of this, Drez fell into a deep depression, drinking away his sorrows in the very church that he was charged to protect. So, a few nights prior, a witch defiled a church, the same one that Drez was passed out drunk in. When the villagers awoke in the morning, they found their church completely defiled and the guard that was supposed to patrol it in a drunken haze among the pews. For this Drez was exiled from the village. So there he was, starving to death in the brush. He got up, walked around a little, and then came upon a traveler. This traveler, cloaked entirely in dark robes, was carrying a raw chicken. Suddenly a mixture of hunger and drunken rage overcame Drezo s thoughts, o He doesno t need thato ¦ Io m starving out hereo he thought. His mind was now set, he sprinted over to the traveler and started throwing punches. However the traveler had much more strength than his looks had bestowed him. Quickly pinning Drez on the ground, the traveler drew his sword to Drezo s throat. But then the unthinkable happened, the traveler stopped. He proceeded to stand up and drop the raw chicken onto Drezo s chest. After thanking him, Drez ran away swiftly, hoping the traveler would not change his mind. Running through the woods, Drez fell down a steep hill. Holding the chicken as if it were his own child, he rolled directly into the den of about six wolves. As the wolves descended upon him, Drez thought this was the end, but luckily for him the wolves just took the chicken and fled the den. o Great,o Drez thought,o now Io m going to die of hunger in this damned hole.o Hours passed and one of the wolves returned, not to end him, but to give him the remaining scraps of the chicken. This wolf stayed by his side for the rest of ito s life, even as Drez added new wolves into his pack. Drez is now committed to the job he had once failed at, protecting the innocent of surrounding villages in their time of need.
