Tree spirits of Greek mythology. Dryads are able to move from tree to tree, and dance in the forest groves. They are seen with Dionysus, the god of wine; and accompanying Artemis, the moon goddess.To be around them is considered unlucky.
The name comes from the Greek word o dryso , meaning oak; and so, it is assumed that dryads are connected to oak trees. The other type of ancient Greek spirit is the Hamadryads.
