He is the all-seeing and all-hearing guardian sentry of Asgard who stands on the rainbow bridge Bifrost to watch for any attacks to Asgard. He partly won the role through using his eyesight to see an army of giants several days' march from Asgard, allowing them to be defeated before they reached Asgard, and making their king a prisoner. For ages, he stood as the guardian of Asgard, defending the city's gates from any intruders, and was one of the most trusted servants of Odin.





I based the actual character design off the live-action film, Thor where he is played by Idris Elba. I did that primarily because it is the most recent depiction of the Norse god and I figured that younger people would be more likely to attach to that version than the old Marvel or even less likely the original depiction in the six poems from the Poetic Edda written in the 13th century.





In the film Heimdall is first seen opening the path to Jotunheim on Bifrost Bridge so that Thor, Loki, Sif, and the Warriors Three can fight the Frost Giants. Heimdall later opens up Bifrost Bridge when Odin banishes Thor to Earth. When Sif and the Warriors Three are unhappy with Loki's rule, they convince Heimdall to open a path to Earth so that they can find Thor. Loki later freezes Heimdall so that the Frost Giants can invade. Heimdall thaws when Thor returns to Asgard and helps to defeat Loki.
