Lone Survivor

With a machete in his pack, plush cat by his side, and a voice screaming in his head,
He walks down a dark alleyway. The sound of static increases as he nears one of those, those things.
He shivers, places some rotten meat on the floor, and hides in the shadows. The beast lumbers by, and begins to eat the rotten flesh on the ground. He sneaks past, not even touching his machete. He hopes he will never have to use his pistol, though. As He rounds the corner, He hears someone shout for help in the gun store to his right. He bashes down the door, and finds one of those things moaning in front of a locked door on the wall across from Him. He whips out his pistol and pops three bullets into its head. The thing flops to the floor. He walks up to the door, and says "It's me. I'm human, let me in. I'm here to help."
The man inside lets Him in, and trades some ammo for one of His blue pills.
"Thanks man," the Survivor says. "My name's Hank."
"Why don't you show your face?" He asks.
"Because, one of those things got me infected. I'm barely human now. Thanks for the pills though."
He trades for a clip of ammo, and leaves.
"Damn, I wonder if he was even real. I think I need some sleep," He says. He goes home, and goes to sleep.
That night, He dreams of Her.
Just an average day in the Post-apocalyptic life of Him.
