I received my 100th subscriber yesterday! Thank you loyal subs and viewers. Your support keeps me skinning and working hard to improve my technique. When I tried to think of a way to celebrate this milestone the choice that seemed most appropriate was to skin another penguin. I chose to do this for several reasons. My penguin skin recruited many subscribers who apparently love penguins (and have asked for more). I also wanted to use this opportunity to show how my shading technique has changed in a few short weeks. The original penguin was an Emperor penguin and lacked definition in the black areas. It's head was noticeably "blocky" (sort of like the cubish Pecola). After doing my shading study (previous blog entry) I wanted a chance to apply what I learned to make a head look more spherical and to see if I could make a noticeably different species of penguin (there are 16 species - I'm not planning on doing them all!). I chose the Macaroni penguin. There are several differences in the two species. The Macaroni has bright feathers on it's head, deep red eyes, a brightly colored beak, pinkish feet, and carries it's body mass much lower down. Believe it or not, almost every pixel was changed between the two skins. Here is a screen shot comparing the two species of penguin.Description | Link | Type | Not mirrored because |
