Here is my submission the Mythological creature contest!
So, here is my Nøkken or à mand, called a Nixie on English. In Denmark people believed that the Nøkken lived in the small streams. Normally they were peaceful creatures, but once a year somebody drowned in the lake. And when some time went past, there would be a voice saying: The time has come, but the man isno t here yet! And there would always be a man running to the stream, even if held back, to drown himself!
In Norway and Sweden, Nøkken is known for playing instruments! The Nøk is glad to learn others to play, but this was dangerous learning. Because, when the human first started playing he would get so bewitched of his song that you couldno t stop! And others nearby would start dancing and this spell could only disappear until somebody broke the instrument.
