V for Vendetta

The Masked Vigilante, known as V, is on a crusade for justice against a corrupt, tyrannical government, after being incarcerated at an internment camp and forced to undergo gruesome experimental medical tests. He escaped during a facility fire, and has been violently opposing the fascist government forces ever since. He wears the mask of Guy Fawkes, a revolutionary figure of the 18th century, to cover his scarred and burnt appearance.

After the hit 2006 film, V has become a cultural icon for discontent with government, and the mascot of several protest movements.

He was also adopted by 4chan as "epic fail guy" after some rather embarrassing footage of protestors in Guy Fawkes masks.
