This is my 5th submission to the_soup's skinning challenge (http://www.planetminecraft.com/forums/soup-skinning-challenge-t255600.html).
So why did I pick one of the Powerpuff Girls? Sometimes 3x2 eyes are just not big enough...Actually, I wanted to try a style with a different type of difficulty. The Powerpuff Girls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Powerpuff_Girls_characters) are animated as flat shaded line art (heavy black lines are used to separate colored areas). Converting them to a boxy skin with some appearance of depth is difficult because:
o their heads are oversized and spherical
o black lines look jagged due to pixelation
o their oversized eyes will have to wrap around edges
o their mouths are drawn as either simple lines or as open with tongues or teeth showing
o their legs and arms are elongated tear drops and often appear curved in action sequences
o subtle hue-shifting and saturation changes will make all the difference between a 3D appearance or just straight up flat shading
o the blond hair with ponytails on Bubbles is hard to work with because lighter hue-shifting tends to be just desaturating yellow
Here is my original flat shaded base model compared to my final, lightly shaded, hue shifted, line art style.
