Roy Campbell served in the United States Marine Corps under the 5th Marine Regiment, namely as one of its truck drivers. However, he left after both his brother and he had fallen in love with the same woman. He stepped aside for his brother's sake, and used his joining the Green Berets as an excuse, especially when he wanted to serve his country anyhow.
