What is the Plague Doctor skin symbolize? The bubonic plague is a decease carried around by small rodent including fleas, rats, etc. This decease still occurs today, yet not at fatal. In the late middle ages Europe experienced the most deadly disease outbreak in Western history when the Black Death, the infamous pandemic of bubonic plague, hit in 1347, killing a third of the human population. That is one of the most wide spread of deaths. When the plague was occurring, these doctors would wear very thick clothing to visit plague victims. What they wore was a leather hat for their head, A mask that would cover all of their face, a beak on the mask that would contain herb and spices to keep the bad smell and decease away, but still be able to breathe. They also wore a full length gown covering most of their body, leather gloves on their hand that were very long and reached up their arm, and full length leather boots. They also liked to carry around a stick to keep people away from them. The mask also included glass eyes that they could see through. Remember, everything was tucked into each other so that they showed little to NO skin at all. These doctors were brave and very careful people and this skin shows all the detail they took into their outfit.
