The Spirit of Christmas
The Shining
It is the Spirit which lives within Christmas, the Heart of Toys, the decider of Nice and Naughty.
The Shining is of a higher authority, it lives over and within the North Pole, spreading far into the world even to the depths of the South Pole. It lives in and throughout all the creatures of the world, yet cannot be seen. It lives everywhere and nowhere. It's essence of which provides life to the toys, and makes them more than dull cutouts of wooden planks. Nothing can destroy it, even if every living thing died. However, at times it seems invisible and is difficult to see. Yet it is always there, if only the tiniest droplet.
Career:
The Shining is higher than Santa Clause in the Feudal System of Christmas. It commands Mr. Clause to work the Workshop. It lives to bring joy and happiness in even the lowest of organisms.
Background:
Millennium ago, there was once a small, elf village. It was not a rich village, but a poor town in the outskirts of the Winter Wonderland. People of that day did not celebrate Christmas: It didn't exist. People thought they were happy sliding down their massive snow castles, or assassinating each other with poisonous snow darts. However, from the skies descended an elf of mystique. It had darker skin, and could only be described as a total Solar Eclipse. It had no war paint, but it's bloodthirsty, red eyes said it could only be an Enemy, wishing to annihilate all that crossed it's path. No one new it's motive, it's background, it's goal, or even it's gender, and I doubt they ever will. All life around it shrivelled into a desk. The king of the time, Doctor Clause, was an expert at languages. He could decide what was a phrase and what was a sub-clause within yotaseconds. But he could not do anything. All hope was lost. Until. A young boy without a name from the small Elfish town approached the Thing. He looked at it, worn ragged clothes billowing in icy-cold wind. Any normal person would be chilled to the bone, but this child had grown used to it.
He stared at this Elf. The Elf returned it's dark and piercing gaze. The sight was incredible, a young boy in a lock of vision with a huge, demonic Elf. Suddenly, the boy glowed a pale colour and disappeared from sight. After an enormous flash, the Demon Elf vanished, and the boy lay on the ground, his deep turquoise eyes burnt out, dead, without a slither of life remaining inside him. The Demon was never again sighted. The Shining engulfed the Boy, he disappeared. The Boy became a legend.
The Shining has always been around, living in the hearts of the People, and floating through time and space. Today, currently, it has taken the form of the Boy, and lives in a disclosed area around the North Pole. It still lives in all creatures, but communicates primarily to Santa Clause, a long descendent of Doctor Clause, telling him the bidding of Christmas.
