Description from original post (created 2014-07-03 14:23):

So, I was supposed to enter this for Underground Creature Contest but then I got lazy after a week of working out the concept, shading, story, and color pallete and forgot to enter it on time. Here it is. I'll put the transformed one in the description after I make some touch ups. Enjoy my sucky story and concept.

Really freaking long story
At first, there was nothing. Then, there was light.

They spawned on the new and vegetated planet with nothing more than the land around them. As confused as they were, their instinct told them to move forward. So, they did, for many centuries. They built glorious buildings, created art of beauty, and they learned the way of their race from trial and error. As it turns out, it seemed for nothing.

Shaking occurred first. Then, a volcano erupted, sending ash to pollute the much needed air. Lava spread across a large area of land. Buildings crashed and tumbled, art was ruined, and there was nothing the players could do. They had met their demise.

It was a terrible glance of the once beautiful land. No green peaked from the settling ash nor a sun to send rays of light. Players were all buried deep under the poisonous gray, futile of escape. Yet, a hand reached from under the damage and trembled. They pulled themselves up until they stood before the disaster.

His name was Andreas Emeret. He was a iron worker’s son and a smart and proud boy. He was up on a hill, looking over his home town and people, sensing a great feeling, before the ground shook under him. The tree he was taking shade under, fell on top of him, the leaves protecting him from most of the ash that had fallen. When he had pushed through the leaves and to the surface, he was distraught to find everything wiped away. A layer of lava had covered his town and his home... friends... father.

Andreas ran away from the scene, knowing that no one could have possibly lived. He continued forward, just like his ancestors had when they were confused. And just like his ancestors, he had found untouched land, afters four years of wandering the world. He was twenty, now, and strong enough to build on this new land.

Many years of loneliness and surviving later, Andreas sat on his small cottage’s roof. He looked up at the starry sky that the ash had left open. He felt a feeling wash over him, just like the day he had lost everyone. Equipping armor and grabbing some food, Andreas set out into the night. He came upon a large open field that was surrounded by the most dazzling flowers. The flowers were glowing bright in the dark. Enjoying the scene and wishing somebody was there to share it with him, he felt loneliness strike his heart. He cried out into the night. “Notch! You must give me a companion! Someone! Anyone...! I have wandered this land by myself for long enough!”

The flowers grew brighter. They blinded Andreas and he screamed out. He felt dizzy and fell unconscious onto the soft ground. Vines wrapped around his body, covering him whole. Various types of flowers sprouted from his cocooned body and bloomed. First, Andreas awoke to the dark and then, he felt a terrible pain spreading across his skull. As he screeched in agony, a new form of vines and flowers grew out of the ground, next to him. It shaped the body of a female.

At last, the pain had stopped. Andreas tore his way out of the vines and sat up. Disoriented, he looked around and to his astonishment, found a beautiful women standing up from the same type of vines he was covered in. She turned her gaze away from the scene and onto him. Her eyes were the color of a emerald and her skin was tan. Hair the color of the rare sun light waved around in the breeze.

Andreas stood up and grabbed the women’s hand, leading her to his shelter. She stayed silent the whole time they walked, a blank look on her face. Her eyes seemed unmoving. While they moved on, she would continuously trip over things. Once they had made it to his cottage, Andreas asked for her name. She replied with Lilith. She told Andreas that she sees nothing and yet she sees everything. Still noticing that Lilith’s eyes didn’t move, he guessed it meant she was blind. He gave her clothing and set her into his bed. She snuggled into the covers and fell asleep, obviously no longer interested in Andreas.

Weeks of aiding Lilith and mining had passed. Andreas had come accustom to Lilith’s rare talking and small movements. She was a beauty and a smart women and he wouldn’t take her for granted. He finally had a companion. Always mining has taken a toll on Andreas. He was deprived of sleep and dust had filled his lungs. Lilith said nothing as she took the arguing man to his home and left him to his thoughts.

Every day, Lilith would leave their home at morning and come back, at sunset, to feed Andreas a strange soup. It went as like this for months before Andreas asked Lilith what she was doing. She simply said “Building our future” and continued feeding Andreas. One day, Andreas went outside to catch Lilith. He failed to find her and decided to sit beside a pond close to home. Brown and red leaves touched the water, making little waves.

Andreas reached to pick up a golden leaf. When he looked into the water, his mouth fell open to a horrifying sight. His face was no longer that he remembered as a child- when he looked into his father’s polished armor. His hair wasn’t brown or his eyes green with freckles spotted across his nose. He was a monster. The vines that he had been covered in, so many months ago, changed his feautures. His hair was a bright gold, horns grew from behind his ears and red eyes stared back at him. He tore at his face, crying. He was longer himself.

Returning home, Andreas found Lilith grinding some flowers and herbs. She said “It will be hard but you will bear it. You are strong.” He sat down onto his bed and cried. For many years, he found no reason to cry but now seemed good.Especially since he had someone to comfort him. Lilith got onto her knees, in front of Andreas, and held his hand. “My repayment is soon to come.”

Snow flakes dropped onto the ground, late into fall- a sign of a long winter. Boots trampled across the land. Bare less trees creaked in the wind, the last of their leaves falling. Lilith was arm in arm with Andreas but still leading. This was strange land to the young man but he trusted his friend and continued on.

Lilith came to a stop and got onto her hands and knees. She brushed away snow and dead leaves from a small hatch and opened it, ushering Andreas inside. He slid down a long ladder and reached up to grab Lilith from the ladder. Placing her beside him, he walked to a railing that wasn’t too far from their entrance.

He looked over a vast cave. Houses, cottages, farms and a kingdom were built into the stone walls. The kingdom rose high and mighty, gold, emerald, ruby, and more were placed on the castle walls. Everywhere was lit with glow stone. Waterfalls flowed down into ponds that were surrounded by farms or vegetation. In the middle of all of this beauty, on the large river that flowed through the middle of the town, stood a statue. A statue of Andreas, made entirely of gold. Placed upon the head was a crown.

Brightening, golden, magnificent, beautiful. Andreas had no words to describe it. So, Lilith did. She held onto his hand and smiled, for the first time. “Our future”...

Kids ran around the town while women with baskets full of fruits dodged them, scolding them. Men went of to work in the caves and in the fields while young girls wove clothing and cooked. The elderly stayed beside the river, fishing. The king looked over his kingdom, his wife in arm with him. He smiled and looked over at his wife. Her gold hair was pulled back to show off her emerald eyes. She turned her head and smiled back. “You are a strong man. You have done good.”
The Creatures' Description
The Crystalline people live deep underground in a city made of beautiful materials. All of them seemed beautiful but each person had their own deformity. It could be horns, a tail or different colored or shaped eyes. As they learned to adapt to the underground, they had figured a way to make materials into cloth. They aren’t hostile unless pursued.
