The Fire Princess
The six year old girl slowly peers down the crevas of the canyon. At the bottom, fire licks up the walls; flickering with the ever growing darkness. The little girl slumps back an closes her eyes. In the Kindgom of the Fearless, the leaders believed that being fearless was the key to life, this they stressed to their people. Being the princess, one day the girl would have to cross the old rickety bridge over the canyon to earn her crown, but today was not that day.
Ten years later, the girl had just turned sixteen and it was the day of the flame; the day she would have to cross the bridge and earn her crown. While the girl was in her room puttin on her black gown, her mother came in. "Are you ready my daughter?" her mother asked. "No Mother" the girl answered. "I am not ready for I am afraid". The mother gently hugged the girl and wispered "It will be alright". With that the two pulled apart and walked out to the bridge. Around the edge, a crowd had gathered to watch the princess earn her crown. The girl looked at the crowd then to the bridge and slowly stepped on as it creaked beneath her. Slowly the girl made progress across the bridge. About half way acrossed, the earth shook violenly and the bridge collapsed, falling into the flames and bringing the girl with it.
A few centuries later, Fearless Kingdom was disbanned, and the flames in the canyon were quenched. A couple boys decided to go adventuring at the bottom of the canyon. After awhile of looking around, they heard a strange noise. It sounded like the crackle of fire. The boys became confused because there wasn't any fire around. And then, they saw her. The girl who had fallen with the bridge so many centuries ago. The boys hurried out and told the village folk. Many of the villagers went out to search for the girl but none ever found her.
To this day, every once in awhile, a brave soul or two will look in the canyon for the girl, but only few have seen her. Those who have, describe her as beautiful, wearing a black gown with fire around it. The story is, that the girl lives only in the underground world still protecting her people.
