FTL: Lanius

The Lanius are a metallic race of scavengers. Their society flows in and out of hibernation cycles, and awake only when their ship comes near a large source of minerals, or intergalactic war creates ship grave yards ripe for the picking. With no need for oxygen, they actually absorb and destroy oxygen in rooms that they are in. This makes diplomacy difficult. Many panic and hide at the sight of them, but few still think there is hope.
