Tales of creatures that dwell underground seldom reach the surface, mostly because the bearers of those tales often die... or worse.
Kal was a member of the Hydret tribe, son of the outcasts. The Hydret tribe was not normal. They shared a common ancestor with trolls, but were far more advanced and civilized. On the day of his birth, his village was attacked. His mother was murdered ruthlessly, with him inside. Late in pregnancy, Kal managed to survive. Because of his traumatic birth, his face was deformed, bone plates growing out the side of his face and his spinal cord elongated into a tail. Abandoned and unable to fend for himself, Kal lay there screaming for days.
A nearby pack of trolls happened upon Kal. Trolls, mistaking him for one of their own took him in and raised him. They took him underground, to the den of Tralikat.
Although Kal was much smaller than the rest of the trolls, he made up for it with superior intellect. However, his rival, Rak sensed Kal was not a true troll. He savagely attacked Kal while he lay sleeping. Fortunately, Kal was not to be overpowered. He defended himself, slaying Rak. The pack turned on him, beating him and tearing his skin.
Kal fled, wandering through tunnels and caves. Bent on revenge, he sharpened his bone plates and honed his tail. He was not to be trifled with.
His name is Kralik. Kal, Rak, and Tralikat.
