It stares down upon you with its hollow sockets, you will never forget the sight of this monster...
Even seeing it in this decrepit old form, it still chills you to see this ghost of the past.

A US military experiment from 2023 went horribly wrong, it broke free from the dev-lab and stormed out over your small town, killing 5, and injuring 14 more.

You remember the day, you remember it well:
There was a fairly loud boom, it sounded to be about a mile to the east, you looked over and saw something breaking through the desert ground. A large robot, appearing to be around eight feet tall, was storming toward your town. It had a shoulder-mounted cannon and was heavily armoured. The speed which the robot moved at was indescribably fast, at least twice that of a car on the interstate.

You hid inside your house in the hopes that it wouldn't see you... You heard screams, gunfire, and more screams.
Suddenly it all stopped, the guns stopped firing, the people stopped screaming... You wait, you wait about five minutes, maybe it's gone? No, it's not. A large armoured fist breaks through the wall behind you, grabs you by the shoulder and smashes you out through the wall.

Your arm hurts, probably broken, your leg feels wet, it's bleeding.
You're lying there in the sand, it is standing above you, looking at you, but not doing anything. Wait, no, the cannon on its shoulder begins to glow... All of the sudden it just stops, it stays there, frozen, unmoving... Dead.

The town is abandoned, the military relocates all of the remaining people, nobody complains, after that event nobody wants to stay in that town anyway.

Today you are contacted by the government, asked to stop by a tech lab in L.A. Only a few miles away. You walk with some scientists into the back room of the lab, you see it.
It stares down upon you with its hollow sockets, you will never forget the sight of this monster...
It had been weathered away by years of sandstorms, became rusty, it looks like some birds took the eyeballs... Must've thought they were shiny, heh. Even seeing it in this decrepit old form, it still chills you to see this ghost of the past.
