Bones, yes. Empty? No.
Not at all.
They say that they are reanimated corpses of long-dead creatures, nameless horrors even before they were
twisted into...whatever it is they are now. Lost miners and foolish children wandering through abandoned tunnels are rarely seen again. The lucky survivors found mumbling in terror in some dark corner, striking match after match to ward off the corpses, are never the same, even years after their encounter. With every attack, there's only one survivor. Or at least enough of him left to tell his rescuers to flee and hope they never have to come back down into this cold, dank tunnel, far beneath the surface of the earth.
All attempts to find out more about these creatures have failed. What we do know is that they aren't alive.
So we can't kill them.
We know that they have an aversion to light.
But that won't stop them from knocking the lantern from your hand,
then slitting your throat.
They hunt only to sate their endless hunger and instill fear in their prey.
They would kill hundreds just to amp the fear in one man.
Fear is their power.
