In a forgotten ruin, lost under the weight of the trees and plants of the surface, lay a tribe of golems. The land of Creatus once was an open world for all creatures to roam, but a terrible war broke out between the living and the almost-living. The golems fought for survival among the other beings that were ruled out into a category of misfits. The Living were outnumbered, but had mastered the art of smithing and battle strategy, giving them an advantage over the Non-Living. The war went on for years, a constant battle between the two sides, until the current ruler and commander of the Non-Living, Wrordak, declared defeat. His followers cowered in his diminishing shadow as all the beings who were shunned off lay to rest in their isolated parts of the land. The golems, otherwise known as Wenthalors, settled in ruins of their own, once tall cities, underground in long tunnels and large dug out rooms. The worker class dug more tunnels and harvested clay to create more workers. Minerals were brought to the queen, Wrenthlam, for the citizens and upper class. The worker golems were made from only stone and packed clay, infused with the ancient Fire of Animation. The citizens of the city and the upper class were crafted from clay and minerals, often consisting of coal, iron, and few precious gems and metals. Population grows greater every day under the earth, and one day the Wrenthlam will reclaim their place in the world of Creatus.
