Story:
Steve walked into a dusty back market shop. As he walked grunting man exchanged dead chickens and old ladies sowed the remains of cotton together. The floor was littlered with broken bottles and cigarettes. Tis was Sampetra, one of the few surviving villages after the war, and it did not like to cooperate to authority.
Steve wasn’t looking for common goods today in the market, he was looking for something special, a suit of sorts, he was tiered of killing giant rats for a living and wanted to switch his career to trading. It was dangerous, but it played a lot better than cleaning this junk.
Steve approached Alexa, the lady who managed trade with other towns and organized the people who will be sent to the snowy wasteland.
"What do you want? she said
"I want to accept the job offer as a porter," Steve replied.
"You? You are all skin and bones!"
"I’m fast."
Alexa nodded and said,"Ok then, you are hired, let me get you your suit."
"Suit?"
"Of course! Unless you want to become one of those poor ghouls or become a frozen hunk of ice."
"Is it really that bad? After 100 years?"
"My grand am told me when she was still alive that the damage of the world was inflicted only a few seconds but it will last a thousand years, or more."
"Ok then, get me the suit."
Alexa went inside and Steve could heir a good amount of metal that seemed to be moving around a floor, then she came out with the suit.
"What a piece of junk!"
"Come on I’m giving you the best, it’s a Hazard Thermal Suit or HTS, the last person who wore it had it for many years before ehhhmm...."
"Why does the helmet no match the suit?"
"It had to be replaced"
"What is that black stuff?"
"Soot and ash."
"WHAT IS THAT SMELL!"
"You don’t want to know, “smiled Alexa, then she pushed Steve out of the shop and said, “Go, go find a merchant to run good with you are free to go!"
Steve stared at her as she closed the curtain and turned the lights off for the night.
What had he gotten himself into now?
