A medicine man of mysterious maladies

Upon the sign sits a name and only a name, Professor G. Wellsworth. I can hear the clock bells chime in the distance cloaked in the shroud of night as I walk through the doors. Nine, ten, eleven strikes ring out from the behemoth. I am greeted with a silence; not a calm silence of a summer, but a silence evoked by a schoolmaster’s strict rule. I decide to search the building for anyone that could aid me. Upon waling down an aisle an odor taunts my nostrils, an agglomeration of sweet summer flowers and sickening brimstone. I turn around to see a man sickly and grey in appearance.

               Quickly breaking the oppressive silence with a voice in stark contrast to his looks he proclaims “Why hello there, I am the owner and sole operator of this fine establishment, Professor Wellsworth. A medicine man of the mysterious, guaranteed to fix your any demonic diseases, infernal illnesses, cursed conditions, bewitched blight, or unnatural unhealth. How may I be of service to you upon this fine evening?”

               Before I have times to even gather my thoughts he impatiently inquires “Well, what is it? I don’t have all day to dilly dally, I have other customers to attend to at the moment and you are holding us up”

               “Other customers? I have not seen a seldom soul in here pass though these doors in the past week”

               “Just because they are not seen doesn’t mean they are not present” He retorted

               “Let us drop this, I have more important matters. Matters that I find most pressing”

               “Quickly then,” He said while shepherding me into a small room with a few lit candles “Let us begin.”
