The Witch King of Angmar was once a mortal man, along with the other eight Nazgûl. When the dark lord Sauron tricked the elves into forging magic rings, the men/Nazgûl received one each. Sadly for them, it corrupted them and made them slaves of Sauron- The Ringwraiths.
