Possibly the most recognisable person to have ever lived, it's hard for anyone to pin-point where you first heard of Ali during your lifetime, much like Elvis, you grow up just knowing who he is... regardless if you're a fan of him or his sport.
With so many different sports, all with their own heroes and greats.. it shows how highly regarded a sports-person can be when you are considered the greatest of all times. And it shows even more when he calls himself the greatest of all time, and backs it up.
From his shock win over huge favourite Sonny Liston, 3 wars with long-time rival Joe Fraizer, to his stoppage of the un-stoppable George Foreman. All these achievements and more in-spite of being robbed of 4 years in his prime for refusing to join the army during the war in Vietnam.
Ali is the reason I am a huge fan of the sport of boxing despite being born years after retirement; he was charismatic, he was skillful, he was kind and he was cruel. He was the embodiment of greatness.
And he is the sole reason why nobody else will ever be considered the Greatest of all times
