Sekota - The Goddess of Summer
Sekota is a beautiful, young goddess. In her former life, she lived in the countryside. Sekota loved the countryside. From her house, the only things you could see where rounded hills dotted with flowers, tall mountains tipped with snow and the sun shining on the land. Sekota adored the view.
One day, she caught an illness. A serious illness. The day before, she was climbing one of the many mountains. She was an expert at this. She did it every week. But even her great climbing skills couldn't save her from this. When she had almost reached the peak, her grip slipped. She fell down the side of the mountain, receiving major injuries along the way. Luckily, there was a lake at the base of the mountain.
The fall had knocked Sekota unconscious. But as soon as she hit the water the shock jolted her awake.
She swam to the surface, which in her condition was extremely difficult. When she reached it, she swallowed big gulps of air. She had almost suffocated. She rested a while until she felt a little better. She traveled back home. She knew this area like the back of her hand.
When she arrived, she quickly told her parents about what had happened. Her father was a doctor, so he patched her up. She rested for a long time. When she woke up, mother was nowhere to be seen. Her father was waiting next to her bed. Her father told her that in the middle of the night when she was asleep, he had checked her for any illnesses.
Her father had found out that she had an infected injury. Except that is had developed. He had found out that Sekota had septicemia. In those days, there was no cure. The result was death. Sekota had always wanted to explore the rest of the mountain range. But now she didn't have the chance. So she made the decision to die somewhere where she adored.
In her last few hours, she had set off. She was trekking along the mountain range path, taking in the view. She knew this was the right decision. After a few hours of walking, she finally began to hear her heart slow. Now is the time, she thought. She made her way to the top of a hill, and lay down. Waiting. And waiting. Until it happened.
Sekota. We have chosen you to join us in the havens of the gods. Prepare.
Sekota was startled, but felt a calming peace fall over her. Her heart was beating slower, slower and slower.
Thump.
Sekota was dead. But her soul was not.
Sekota is now the Goddess of Summer. Everywhere she walks in the havens of the gods, flowers
bloom in all sorts of colors, sizes and shapes. She lives in a place like her former home. She is at peace.
