Tarika "Little Star"
Tarika, this name, a fitting name for this girl. You see, there is much more meaning to this name for this girl than meets the senses. The night that they, her adoptive parents found her there was a meteor shower. Like most movies and stories, she was found on their porch. There was no note, just a small necklace around her neck, tightened almost all the way. They tried to take it off, but it shone brightly and would not unlatch no matter what, as if it didn't want to be separated. Her frame not as most babies, not pudgy or anything like that, no need to hold her neck, she was thin and fragile. As she grew, the necklace grew along with her. Her eyes, deep violet, yet bright never changed, at all. Her hair, gold and light as the summer sun, everyone envied. Her dresses, never paid for never made, always appeared for her, not even her parents knew where they came from.
Everyone always made the assumption she was rich, from her golden hair, bright eyes, beautiful dresses, and gracefulappearance. But it was the opposite. Her, nor her parents ever got enough to eat, yet somehow, she got along perfectly fine. She never cried, never screamed, never got hurt. She knew she couldn't, for her family.
It was when she was 16, the week after her birthday. At school, so many people weren't there. All the teachers had substitutes. She wandered around looking for anyone she knew she could confide in, but to no avail. She went to her first class, there was a note on her desk that read: "Wondering where they are?" The writing looked a little like blood, a little too much. When the bell rang, she practically sprinted to her next class, hoping with all her heart her friends were there, and this was all just a joke, or a bad dream. She got to class, and there was another note, this one read: "I know you're afraid, don't be afraid to show it" She stiffened in her seat, not wanting to know what would happen next. The bell rang once again and she scurried to her next class. She slowly sat down, averting her eyes from her desk. Finally, she found the couage to look at the desk, as expected, there was another note. This one read: "Skip lunch and go to the courtyard, under the cherry trees" She didn't want to follow the instrucions, but, she fet like something would happen if she didn't. The class period crawled by.
Tarika was dreading the coming lunchtime. When the bell finally rang, she ran to the cherry trees, fighting back tears. When she arrived, there was no one. She went to sit down on a bench, and there was another note. This one read: "Just because you can't see me, or them, doesn't mean we're not here" Upon reading the note she began to hyperventilate, tears dropping from her eyes for the first time in her life. A hand, cold, but still a hand she saw out of the corner of her eye, and grabbed it. Memories that didn't seem like hers went through her head. Stars, no, PEOPLE exploding, falling, slipping out of people's grasps. Then, there was a woman, that looked almost like her, losing grip on a baby, golden haired, and as the woman lost her grip, a necklace appeared on the baby.
Tarika was suddenly shocked back into reality, breathing hard, her tears subsided. A man, looking nothing like the woman in the memory, but feeling the same, sat next to her smiling. "I've finally found you, Tarika." The man said as he faded away, his tears seemingly floating into the wind. Her necklace glowed brightly, nearly blinding, and Tarika found herself in a white room. She walked around and there were no doors, she pressed her hand to the wall, and a door appeared. She walked through the opening, finding herself in her room. There was a note on her bed that read, this time in normal ink: "Your parents and friends are gone, they are not dead, you have a purpose to fufill in this world Tarika. If you truly care about them, you will find them and save them, despite the danger" Tarika was no longer scared of the notes, she took a deep breath and smiled, feeling a new otherworldly power in her.
10 years later, when she was 26,she became her true form, a star. Next to her true mother, the woman who had given her the necklace. She knew she would leave again someday, but she was ready for it.
