“Cinyphissss was a human once… Yeesss.. I do believe I was…”
Many an explorer has travel to the underground lair of Cinyphis, the enormous ruler of all insects. Each one had hope to find the terrifying insect dead of old age... but there is more to him than meets those two, bulbous, ever seeing eyes.
Hundreds of years ago, the exact date has been forgotten, the monstrosity Cinyphis was a mere human, named Clyde. Clyde was not a particularly smart individual, nor the richest of men, but was content with his life. He had a beautiful wife, and a prosperous farm that yielded him just enough pay to keep his life going along. He was happy with his simple existence, and he wanted it to stay that way until he died.
Oh, but life is never so kind.
One particularly stormy day, Clyde was outside tending to his crops, and making sure they were not drowned in the rain. He had a particular fondness for his crops, and would do anything to keep them safe. Unfortunately for him, this storm had brought a peculiar type of insect out from the forest, and they took refuge in Clyde’s farm. Oblivious to their existence, Clyde was bitten by many of these bugs, and was itching all over. But Clyde was a tenacious man, and would do anything to keep his crops safe. So he kept on farming till late at night, until he could work no more. He reluctantly left his crops and headed back to the farmhouse down the road.
On his way there, he spotted a mysterious figure, hunched over, slowly making his way down the path. Clyde hailed the figure, asking him if he needed shelter from the storm. The Figure only turned around, revealing himself to be a hooded, red-eyed mage, and struck Clyde with a green-tinted lightning bolt. Whether the attack was intended to kill Clyde is not known. Rather, the mage’s poison reacted with the bites from the insects in the field, causing Clyde such an immense pain that he passed out.
When Clyde regained consciences, he was no longer Clyde at all. He was a massive insect, much resembling the bugs in the field, with giant glowing-red eyes and massive insect like wings. Clyde then realized that he was no longer in control of his body, and that he was only the host of a more malicious, bloodthirsty presence. Clyde could feel it. An insatiable hunger for death.
Clyde was in despair, and could do nothing. He watched from the insectoid eyes as his former self ravaged the countryside, killing and destroying, until the monster took refuge in a cave, waiting for victims to come to their deaths.
Clyde now longs for death, just to end this presence destroying so much life. Each time a new explorer comes to challenge Cinyphis, as the villagers now called him, Clyde cheers him on, hoping for the adventurer to kill the horrifying beast. Clyde still feels the lust for death, and is often tempted to fall into it, but still remains true to his pure self, even if he is locked inside a death-monster.
