The Diamond Man

They say that there's a Man who lives deep down in the caves. Skin white as bone from the lack of sunlight, eyes pale and unseeing from the dark... the Man is little more than a creature now.

They say the Man used to be a regular man just like you or me. One day the Man decided he wanted to go mining for diamonds, and that he wasn't going to come out of the caves until he finally found some. Days passed, they say, but the Man did not care. He went deeper, leaving torches to mark the way back. He would not come out until he found his precious diamonds.

Then, one by one, the torches burned down and went out, and the Man was left alone in the dark, with no way back out and no way to see his precious Diamonds. They say he wandered for what seemed like hours, days, weeks, until the Man grew weak and time seemed to stretch on to infinity, and still he was alone in the Dark with nothing to live for other than his precious Diamonds.

They say that the Man still lives in the caves, wandering around in the Dark. They say that his mind is gone, lost to the Dark and thoughts of that sparkle, that all cosuming Sparkle that marks the rocks where the Diamonds grow. But they say that, if you can find the Man, you just might find his only possessions left in the world.
