Description from original post (created 2015-02-24 08:07):
I've recently started making Minecraft skins and have found (with some research) that they are not all that difficult to make. I have been a graphic artist for a few years and an artist all my life, so it was just adopting a new art style. I am now setting up a massive, long project that will potentially last up to several months with how much I currently want to do. Though there is something that is troubling me. There are some details that I simply cannot seem to create within the standard limits of a normal minecraft skin creator (such as Nova Skin). I keep visualizing it in my head. If I could only break the current pixels into 4 pixels, I could create each and every detail I want to include, but only if I can do that. It's taunting me to decide whether I want to use something like a mod or not. I have this envisioned in my head and I want to see it through. I don't want to do less than what I feel is necessary.
So, my main reason for creating this thread is to ask:
Is this kind of higher-detailed skin at all possible with Minecraft's restriction on the size or not?
Do I need to find a mod that will allow for a more detailed skin?
I have done a few hours of research myself and have only found a few things that help in the slightest, but I'm still fairly lost and unsure.
Thank you for your consideration and any help provided,
Heirox
