The crystalline mirror of fantasy
Of being my Ideal,
If only I could reach the Key:
But of course it is unreal.

Always straining, searching for
The Beauty you possess,
For it is my goal, of course,
To look like all the rest.

Tall and like a willow’s branch,
Slender as a rail,
Oh, the thought at which I blanch,
What if I fail?

Cannot eat, must press on
No matter what the Cost,
Even though I’m near’ upon
The ledge of the Lost.

They tell me they can make me learn,
To see myself so clearer,
They can make me stop the burn,
Of the cracked old Mirror.
