Turn back time

How I wish I could be awoken by the singing of birds, the fresh scent of pine needles and the sizzle of eggs frying in a pan but no. Instead I am forcefully janked out of sleep by the blistering cold winds stabbing at my arms and legs. I've spend three days away from my family, scavenging for food and still have nothing. I know that I cannot return empty handed, the looks on their once hopeful faces would be too hard to bare, I must find something even if it's just scraps. I wrap my scarf tighter around my neck, pull down my goggles, preparing to face the harsh snowstorm which is lurking just outside these ruins. As my foot steps outside, a sharp dagger of icy wind slips dow my shirt, causing me to shiver. I cluch my coat tighter around me and pulling up my hood trying to battle out the cold, this seems to help slightly.

After what seems like miles of walking, I spot a rabbit trecking through the snow. Cautiously, I crouch down, pulling out a throwing knife and aiming directly for it's middle. I close one eye, knowing that if I miss this, I may not see food for weeks. Concentrating hard and breathing heavily I release.
Success! Now I can finally get back to the safety and warmth of home. That's what I wish anyway. My home's not exactly warm of safe, but it used to be... before the war. Before the war when life was peaceful and plentiful, before the war when I had not a care in the world, if only I could turn back time.
