This song talks about hiding who you really are because you’re afraid that your other half won’t love the real you. It talks repeatedly about hiding behind a mask, hence the mask on the skin, and being terrified that they won’t accept you, even though you love them, hence the blue heart on the chest. I thought the song had a more modern feel to it, so that’s why she’s dressed in modern clothes.
